Whether pampas grass, sedge, lamprey grass, elephant grass, riding grass or any other specimen - ornamental grasses are popular plants for heather, stone and perennial gardens. In order for them to remain vigorous for many years, they should be cut regularly. But when?
Preferably cut in spring
In the fall, no suitable time to cut back ornamental grasses. The main reason why it is not recommended, is that through the cut stalks wetness can penetrate, flow down and can lead to rot in the root area. It is better to cut back in the spring between mid-February and (at the latest) in mid-April - before the plant is re-planted.

Evergreen ornamental grasses do not need to be cut. It is enough to pluck old and dead parts.
