Although this popular houseplant is often referred to as the "palm tree", it is not. In fact, the Yucca or even Palmlilie is not even remotely related to the real palm trees, but belongs instead to the family of asparagus plants. Furthermore, there is not "the" yucca palm, but about 50 different species. Not all of them show the typical, thick trunk with the green leaves. As small as your yucca may be at the time of purchase, it will grow very rapidly under the appropriate growing conditions. So that your Yucca copes well with the pruning, you should prune them only in the spring or until early summer if possible.
