Rebuild the raised bed in autumn
When the garden is cleared up from late summer, lots of biological waste such as plant remains, grass clippings, leaves and pruned woodcrops are produced. These materials are perfect for refilling the new raised bed (or even the old one). The advantage: until spring, the compost is well matured and ready for sowing.

Cover the raised bed over the cold season
Then you should cover the freshly filled raised bed for the winter. This is a thick mulch layer (for example, foliage, straw, brushwood ...), but also mulch film is very good. This measure is important in that the content of the raised bed is not obstructed by winter precipitation and thus condensed. In addition, valuable nutrients can be flushed out. Over the next few months, the compost volume in the raised bed will be significantly reduced - the compost decomposes into fine humus soil and therefore sags. Therefore, the raised bed must often be replenished in the spring, preferably with a layer of horse manure or half-ripe compost and fine potting soil above.
Tips
The content of a raised bed rots within five to six years. After this period, the bed must be set up again.
