Raised beds serve to support or design slopes, enlarge the garden area and create harmonious transitions, for example, between the terrace and the garden. Take the height differences for a design with several raised beds on different levels. These can be effectively designed in different styles or can be used differently - with vegetable raised beds, fruit and ornamental flower beds.
Stable raised beds support slopes
Solid raised or terrace beds prevent in a practical and appealing way that soil or other soil slips away. At the same time they form flat planting surfaces. For the construction of a raised raised bed, you can use natural stones, bricks, concrete blocks, as well as wooden poles, beams or palisades. Basically, you should note that the front of the bed is always slightly inclined to the slope so that it can withstand the pressure of the underlying soil permanently.

What to do when the soil is very wet?
If the bottom of the slope is very humid or wet, it is advisable to stabilize the sloping surface with drainage. Lay under the foundation until far behind the front of the raised bed, drainage pipes whose outlet openings are on the front of the bed. If you also backfill the front of the bed with a loose material such as a gravel-sand mixture, any accumulated water can be drained quickly.
Tips
Small areas, as they often lie to the side of terraces or entrance stairs, are usually planted with ground cover. Again, a raised bed offers the opportunity for a visually appealing design. For example, you can stagger the height of the planting according to the slope of the staircase - this creates a natural overall picture.
