Actually, the term yucca "palm" is a false one, because despite the palm-like leafy head, the palmlilie is not a palm species. Instead, the popular houseplant belongs to the agave family. Yuccas are very vigorous and can be quite high - no wonder that sometimes a piece can break off. Fortunately, the plant as well as the broken piece usually can be saved.
Treat injured Yucca
Whether it's just a small shoot or a larger piece of the trunk, breaking is not a broken leg. Yuccas are very robust and simply continue to grow at the point of breakage or suddenly develop shoots in other places. Also, the broken piece does not need to go into the trash, you can just plant it like a cutting in soil and win a new plant. However, the fracture site should be treated unconditionally, otherwise it can serve as an entry gate to fungi and other pathogens. Minor injuries - which occur, for example, if only a minor side shoot is broken off - do not require treatment. You can, however, sprinkle the place with some cinnamon powder, because this has a disinfectant effect. Larger fractures, on the other hand, should be straightened with a sharp knife and then closed with tree wax.
Broken shoots root like cuttings
The tree wax ensures that the breakage does not dry out and dies at this point. Also, large open wounds are a problem because they have an extremely attractive effect on fungi and bacteria. Even the broken shoot or the broken stem piece are straightened at the fracture. Then you can root it like a conventionally cut cutting. The easiest way of rooting succeeds directly in soil, whereas water rooting often causes the fragment to rot.
