The harvest of pea-sized seeds would be a breeze if it were not the questionable poison content. Please remove the ripe seeds from the withered flower rests in autumn with protective gloves. In order for a Mirabilis jalapa to produce the desired seeds, leave some flowers from the second half of the summer and do not brush them out.
Separate the seed from the flower residue with your fingers and keep it dry, dark and cool until the next spring.
Instructions for sowing
From March, the lighting conditions on the windowsill have improved so far that you can start the cultivation of young miracle flowers. How to do it right:
On the warm, partially shaded windowsill you can look forward to the first germ buds within 1 to 2 weeks. The cover has thus fulfilled its duty and will be removed. As a result, keep the substrate constantly slightly damp. By the middle of May, your pupils have formed the bulbous over-life organ and can be planted in the sunny spot.
Direct sowing is rarely successful
Seeding the seeds directly into the bed rarely takes the desired course. Since the soil temperatures do not provide the necessary heat for germination before the end of May / beginning of June, the young plant does not get up until late in the year, when flowering time is almost over.
Tips
In order for a seed to turn into a magnificent miracle flower, a lean substrate is required during cultivation. If the young roots have a lush nutrient buffet available, they see no reason to try hard to grow. Therefore, supplement the care only with regular fertilization, if a vital root system has developed on a strong tuber.
