Originally the Weigelie comes from Asia, but now it is also a popular ornamental and hedge plant in this country. But do not just plant some Weigelie in your hedge, because this genus is very diverse in terms of stature height and flower color.
How do I plant Weigelien in a hedge?
For a formal hedge, the weigela is less suitable than for a so-called informal hedge. This is not brought into a geometric and thus often rigid shape, it grows rather loose. As a result, it does not always offer optimal privacy.
The great advantage of an informal hedge with weigelias, however, is that the pruning of this hedge can be designed so that the flowering of the weigela is not obstructed or restricted. If you accidentally cut off all of your buds in the fall, the Weigelie will not bloom in the next season.

For a harmonious overall impression, however, you should not lose sight of the stature height. A pygmy weigie barely reaches the height of one meter while the especially popular Bristol Ruby gets more than two meters tall. So choose Weigelias that match the other shrubs in the hedge.
How do I care for a hedge with weigelias?
A regular pruning is also very important for Weigelien in a hedge, otherwise they are easily rotfrost. Just as important for the abundance of flowers is a sunny location. Make sure the soil is always slightly moist to fresh.
