The look
Elm seeds are visually very different from other plant seeds and are therefore easy to identify. They are enclosed by a wing, which is a nut fruit. The seed is round and flat and has a papery shell. Depending on the elm species, it is either in the middle or slightly outside the pericarp.

Immediately after flowering in spring the elms form seeds. Depending on wind and weather you fall immediately to the ground or stay a little longer than the blossom on the tree. Since the fruits of the elm are gliders, the wind is one of the most important factors for reproduction. In addition, the elm multiplies by living in the water animals to which the seeds adhere.

Pull an elm of seeds
When growing, be aware that elm seeds are germinable only for two to three days. In addition, it is light germ. This means that when planting the seeds must lie on the substrate surface and must not be pushed too deep into the soil.

The seeds of elm are not poisonous. Especially young seeds are available for consumption. Their consistency is pleasantly soft. However, they taste a very bland flavor.
