Like all bromeliads, Tillandsia flower once in room culture and then die off. The fascinating exotics, however, do not come off without first providing for the survival. To this end, most species produce one or more daughter plants, endowed with all the wonderful attributes of the mother plant. Through the way of the Kindel Tillandsie provides us with propagation material, which is already laid out ready.
Cut off Kindel and care properly - That's how it works
To successfully propagate a Tillandsie, continue the care program of watering and fertilizing seamlessly at the end of flowering. Cut off the withered inflorescence so that the plant does not invest any energy into the growth of the capsule fruits. Proceed as follows:
Place the pot in a warm, partially shaded location. Sprinkle the young plant regularly with soft water. After 4 to 6 months, topple the young Tillandsie into normal Bromeli earth or fix it on a pad.
Special case Tillandsia usneoides
At a Tillandsia usneoides you will look in vain for daughter plants. To increase this Tillandsia species generatively, cut off healthy, vital shoots with a length of 10 to 15 cm. These bind on wood or cork. Daily sprinkled with soft water, the growth progresses briskly in the bright, warm window seat.
Tips
The propagation of seedling with seeds poses a particular challenge. At least 2 specimens of the same species are required for fertilization. Furthermore, the pollination is done manually with a fine brush. If the capsule fruits release the winged seeds after a long period of maturation, germination takes many months. Until the desired flowering time, several years drag into the country.
