Fix pond liner - that's how it's done right
Fastening the pond liner to the edge can be tricky in some cases - depending on how the bank area of the garden pond is designed. How to do it right, what to look for and what fixings you need, read our article.

Each pond needs a so-called at its edge capillary barrier, It should prevent water loss through capillary action.
If the surrounding soil had contact with the bottom of the pond, the capillary effect of the soil would practically suck the water out of the pond. Inside the pond, this prevents the pond liner, but at the edge of the pond, both layers separate.
Because of this, the pond liner needs always guided to the upper edge of the soil and fastened there become. Otherwise, the capillary action of the soil would draw the water from the top of the pond. A sign that this happens is usually swampy spots around the pond. So that the film can not slide down, you have to attach the pond liner on the edge.
shore mats
Shore mats can be used to hide the raised pond liner. These are mats made of fiber and many pores. They allow a good hold for shore plants.
Depending on how the pond is carried out, you put the shore mat:
1. In a so-called "Uferterasse", 10 cm below the water surface, the beach mat is laid there and pulled over the pond sheet over the edge of the embankment. While the pond liner still extends into the moat and is fastened at its end, the shore mat ends already in the trench edge leading downwards.
2. On steep pond shores without the outer terrace, the beach mat is pulled up over the steep bank and fastened together with the pond liner at the upper edge of the pond. The pond liner is then carried on and fastened separately (preferably clamped between two stones or two squared timbers)
On a side wall on the bank, the pond liner must be completely pulled up and fixed. This is the case, for example:
If such walls form a bank boundary, you can also screw a strip on the wall, under which the pond liner is attached. It is then folded from above again over the bar. The embankment mat is then placed over it and conceals both foil and strip.
