Tagetes can theoretically be overwintered in the pot in the warm
Tagetes overwinter, is that possible?
With its bright yellow or orange-red flower heads the marigold is one of the most popular summer bloomers. If the plants thrive particularly well in one location, the question often arises in autumn: is the Tagetes able to withstand the cold days outdoors or is there another possibility for overwintering?
Tagetes do not like frost
The Mexican-born Tagetes is not tolerant of frost and already the first frost days make the marigold often. Little is known, however, that not all Tagetessorten one year. Transplant the marigold into a flowerpot and place it in a room with 15 to 20 degrees all day long, in many cases it will be possible to hibernate.
However, it is easier to harvest the seeds of the Tagetes in the autumn and to prefer new marigolds to them in the coming spring.
Tips
In mild regions, the Tagetes are often self-sufficient. Do not cut off all the flowers that bloom during the summer immediately, but let them dry until the elongated seeds fall out of the tubes.
