The Tagetes sowing singles - so it succeeds
Tagetes can be sowed and multiplied without any problem. Starting in February, you can prefer the attractive summer flowers in a bright place in the apartment or in the air-conditioned greenhouse.As soon as the small plants have reached a height of ten centimeters, it is time to poke them so that they can develop well.
Why must be piqued?
If you have sown the marigold flower over a wide area and many seeds have risen, it will eventually become too small for the plantlets. They would dispute the space and nutrients in the seed tank, so that ultimately only the strongest plants survive.
When pikiert should show you the small marigolds themselves. If the first "right" leaves have developed after the cotyledons, this is the optimal time for this care measure.
To separate Tagetes professionally
For this work you need the following materials:
Gently remove the seedlings from the soil by pressing the spiked rod into the substrate next to the seedlings and gently lifting the small plants together with the tiny root ball. Very long root threads may be shortened with scissors. This stimulates the formation of a strong root ball.
Insert the offspring much deeper than before in the new vessel. Press the substrate a little so that the occasional tagetes have a secure hold. Pouring is done with a sprayer, as a sharp jet of water could damage the delicate plantlets. A cover, which ensures a warm and humid greenhouse climate, is no longer necessary.
Move to the field
Before planting, it is important to slowly adapt the marigold to the changed conditions in the field. On mild days, place the small tagetes in a shady spot on the terrace to help them get used to it.
Tips
If you have enough space, you can use medium sized flower pots to pull the tagetes yourself. Only give them three to five daily teas. This will save you the pikieren.
