Is sun hat a perennial?
The perennial and winter hardy sun hat belongs to the perennials. This applies to the yellow sun hat (Rudbeckia) as well as the red sun hat (Echinacea), which is used as a medicinal plant, above all, to strengthen the body's defenses.
What is a perennial?
Botanists and gardeners understand a plant with certain characteristics under a shrub. Perennials are perennial and herbaceous, they do not lignify like trees or shrubs. The above-ground parts of many perennials die each year after the growing season and rebuild next year. Overwinter the underground parts (roots, onions, tubers or similar). But there are also evergreen perennials, such as banana trees.
What types of sun hat are there?
Rudbeckia and Echinacea have a similar appearance with radially arranged petals, like daisies. However, the flower basket in the middle makes it very easy to recognize the genus. The rudbeckia is soft, the echinacea prickly and hard.
Of the two genera of the sun hat there are different varieties. The yellow sun hat blooms from July to October, not only in bright yellow but also in variations of orange-red or red-brown. The stature height varies depending on the variety from about 40 cm to about 2 m in the slender-leaved coneflower.
The classic color of the red sunhat is purplish pink. The offered color palette now ranges from white to pale pink and orange to orange-red. The flowering time is slightly shorter than the yellow sun hat, namely from July to September. Both genera are also available with filled flowers.
Plant sun hat properly
Sonnenhut likes sunny and warm weather, as the name suggests. The soil should be rich in nutrients, for the Rudbeckia rather humid, for the Echinacea rather permeable. Depending on the space you have the choice between low-wake ground cover and high-alert perennials.
