Anyone who thinks that sunflowers always have only one big, golden yellow blossom does not know the variety "evening sun" yet. This breed produces beautiful flowers, ranging in color from orange to deep red. Often they are even multicolored.
Several multicolored flowers on a plant
On each stem of the sunflower "evening sun" grow several flowers. They are not quite as big as those of the known giant sunflowers.
But they shine in the red and gold colors of a sunset. This species of sunflower with its flower colors lives up to its variety name.
Particularly decorative are the flowers that bloom in two colors. Often they have a yellow wreath inside and out, while the center wreath is red or orange.
Decorative privacy by long flowering time
"Evening sun" has a very long flowering time. The first flowers appear in summer. Until the beginning of the frost new flowers appear.
The variety is up to two meters high, sometimes it even manage individual plants to 2.50 meters. "Evening sun" is therefore an ideal screen at fences and terrace borders.
Undemanding and easy-care
Like all sunflower species, the "evening sun" is pretty modest in terms of location.
She likes it sunny, but actually grows wherever there is room. In the shade, however, she remains rather small. In draughty places there is a risk that the stems break.
When planting in the garden you should keep a planting distance of about 70 centimeters.
Maintain "evening sun"
The care of "evening sun" does not differ from that of other sunflower varieties.
Water abundantly and fertilize regularly, as the "sunlit" strain, like all sunflowers, needs plenty of nutrients to reach their stately size.

The breeding "evening sun" is available in every well-stocked garden shop as a seed bag.
New seed for sowing next year you will reap from the flower buds.
Of course, you can also just leave the flowers blossomed out to provide the birds with food in winter.
Tips & Tricks
The sunflower "evening sun" is very well suited as a cut flower. It lasts a long time if you cut it on a dry day. Dip the stems in boiling water for a few seconds and do not set the vase too sunny.
