Gypsophila can be multiplied by division, sowing or cuttings

How can you increase gypsophila?

If you want to multiply your gypsophila, then it is advisable to split the plants in spring or to set cuttings. However, the division does not work equally well for all varieties. But it's worth a try.

Propagation by division

Propagation by division is not easy and not always successful. You have the greatest chance if you share the roots. Do not hurt the fleshy firm parts of the roots. Take the root breaks instead. Cut these root pieces on the side pointing to mother plant, straight away. On the other side put a slanted cut.

Now put this root with the oblique cut down into a pot with nutrient-poor substrate. Sprinkle some sand on the upper surface and moisten everything a little bit. When the first leaves show you can plant the gypsophila in the garden. At first, these young plants should not stand in the blazing sun.

Propagation by cuttings

In the spring, cut some cuttings about 10 - 15 cm long from your gypsophila. These cuttings should have at least three pairs of leaves and are best cut below a leaf node.

Remove the lower leaves and place the cuttings about halfway in a pot with a nutrient-poor substrate or a mixture of soil and sand. After moistening, place the cuttings in a bright place. Only when they have grown well and have formed roots, they are allowed to go outdoors. Do not water your cuttings too much, otherwise they will start to rot.

Sowing gypsophila

Above all the one-year varieties of the Schleierkrauts are increased by sowing. But you can also sow the perennial perennial gypsophila (Latin Gypsophila paniculata). Depending on your preferences, sow it in pots or directly in the field. For sowing outdoors, the time from March to June is recommended.
