Leaves of the sallow-willow
Only after the kitties of the willow have withered, unfold from the pointed, brownish buds, the first leaves. They are initially slightly hairy on the upper side, later smooth and dark green, lighter on the underside. They have a great variety of forms.
The Salweide (Salix caprea) is a deciduous deciduous tree, which can grow up to 10 meters high and develops a relatively wide crown during its lifetime. The leaves of the willow show after flowering. Unfolded to full size, they wear lush greenery throughout the summer before turning yellowish brownish in autumn and falling off.
Description of the leaves
leaf development
The young leaves of the Salweide are covered on the top with short, dense hairs, which later fall off, so that the smooth, dark green upper surface comes to light, on which clearly the sunken leaf veins are recognizable. The hair on the lighter leaf underside remains. The petioles are up to 10 mm long. At the base, small stipules form over time.
Detect diseases on the leaves
The brown spots on the leaves indicate fungal disease. If the shoots die off and the willow leaves prematurely, it should be traded as soon as possible. To combat the infestation, cut off the affected branches as possible at the approach and removes the fallen leaves from the ground. These are not on the compost, but in the garbage.
Tips
Salweide is also called palm willow in some areas. On Palm Sunday, place the cut branches of the sallow-willow in the vase and decorate them with colorful Easter eggs.
