Are there different varieties of Säckelblumen?
The seed flower (bot. Ceanothus) is native to North or Central America. There are about 60 different species, some of which were bred as hybrids. Smaller species are very suitable as Kübelbepflanzung or for a low hedge.
Which varieties of Säckelblume are there?
The American sapling flower (bot. Ceanothus americanus) is even said to have a medicinal effect as a remedy for the spleen. In domestic use, however, it is rather an attractive ornamental plant. It is growing in the south of Canada as well as in the eastern United States. The hybrids were bred out of the American and Mexican seedflower. Interesting, however, is rather the subdivision by size or flower color.
Which flower colors are there?
Very popular and well known is the blue flower (bot. Ceanthus x delianus "Glore de Versailles"). It was bred in France especially for the Central European climate and is a hybrid of the American and the Mexican Säckelblume. Possible for other varieties but also the flower colors are white, (dark) pink, different shades of blue and purple.
How and where do I plant a high-pitched flower?
The Säckelblume does not tolerate cold wind and needs a lot of heat. Therefore, it is ideally located on a south wall. There is also a greater chance of surviving the winter, but in a harsh area only with winter protection.
Where does a small flower of a flower feel good?
In principle, a small flower has the same needs as a high guard, but it takes much less space. So you can cultivate a small variety quite well in the bucket for the terrace or the balcony. So the flower can be easily brought into a suitable winter quarters after flowering and pruning.
Even for a flowering hedge the low varieties of Säckelblume are well suited. However, be sure to buy a hardy variety here. In a harsh area, the hedge could otherwise freeze if you do not apply winter protection.
