Sown in August or September, the young plants are wintered under a protective layer of spruce needles and then transferred to their final location in March.
In order to protect the young red cabbage plants from excessive sunlight and pests, a cover with a fine network in the early growth stage is recommended. This protects against the dreaded cabbage fly, but also ensures a shading of the cabbage.
Harvest and storage
Depending on the planting date, red cabbage can be harvested at different times of the year. In March, red cabbage heads reach a stately size from the planting date in August. From the end of October to the beginning of November, the cabbages will follow from Saattermin in May.
