Red beech is one of the fast-growing trees. In nature, they reach heights of 30 meters or even 45 meters in sheltered locations. A beech hedge must therefore be cut regularly so that it is not too high and expansive.
Beech hives grow up very fast
You can almost watch the growth of a beech hedge.Their growth per year is 40 to 50 centimeters, in height and width.
If you simply let a beech hedge grow, you would have a hedge that is several meters high in a few years' time.
Regular cutting of a beech hedge in spring and summer is essential if you want to plant a dense screen in the garden. Without pruning, the lower parts of the hedge are blunted because there is not enough light left there.
Tips
Single red beech can grow up to 300 years old. In the beech hedge they reach a not so high age, but grow for many decades.
