Which toxins contain beechnuts?
The toxins contained in beechnuts are fagin and oxalic acid. Both substances trigger slight symptoms of intoxication in people who express themselves through nausea.
By heating or roasting the beechnuts, the toxins are neutralized and the fruits can be consumed safely. They also take on the taste by heating.
The nutlets contain a lot of oil. They are therefore a good source of food in winter for wildlife such as deer, deer, wild boar, birds and squirrels.
