Rosemary gets yellow needles - What to do?
For many people, rosemary is one of the absolute "must-haves" in the herb garden, and the herb with its characteristic aroma is very versatile in the kitchen. At the same time, however, rosemary is not easy to care for, especially too much moisture does not suit him.
Yellow needles mostly hint at too much water
If the needles of the rosemary turn yellow, this is usually a clear indication of irrigation errors - the rosemary is in this case too wet. The native of the Mediterranean rosemary thrives in his homeland on sunny cliffs, where there is naturally rather little water. Instead, the plant gets its water needs to a large extent from the air, as he also "drinks" the morning dew primarily in the south. The rest is provided by the very widely branched and deep roots. As soon as you notice yellow leaves, you should first stop watering for a few days and then pour only very moderately - if at all. For example, planted rosemary does not need any extra watering.
Pour rosemary properly
Rosemary plants should always be poured from above - never pour water into a coaster, so that the roots can soak. A large part of the water is absorbed by the leaves, while the roots should be as dry as possible. Too much moisture quickly leads to root rot, also settle on wet roots very quickly mushrooms. Always pour the rosemary only when the substrate in the pot has already dried off superficially. Even if the plant dehydrates for a short time, it does not hurt her - after all, she is used to dryness. Only on very hot summer days could it be necessary to water the plant more often.
Tips & Tricks
If your rosemary is thirsty, notice this on the hanging needles. The plant leaves its leaves hanging, indicating that it needs water. However, once she gets yellow needles, the opposite is true - she needs less water. Now you have to act fast, so that it does not come to a root rot and dried up the rosemary.
