Roses fertilize in the fall? Better not!
Roses are real hard-earners and need a regular and targeted fertilization over the summer, so that they stay healthy and strong growth and train their beautiful flowers. However, nutrient supply should be stopped by the end of June at the latest in order not to delay the maturity.
Autumn fertilization endangers winter protection
Nutrient additions occurring later than June endanger the winter hardiness of their roses, because the supply of nitrogen in particular tempts the plants to tirelessly develop new shoots and not let the existing ones mature in time. These shoots, which are too soft in winter, freeze to death in the cold season and are thus lost and may even be dangerous to the rose: after all, such a weakened plant is very susceptible to various pathogens, especially fungi. At best, the nutrients only seep into the soil.
Pile roses with compost?
Roses should be sprinkled with soil over the winter to protect against frost. Sometimes one reads the advice of piling the plants with compost instead, so that they are still supplied with nutrients. However, this is not a very good idea, especially as the mildew winter nutrients that seep out of the compost can give the rose a late boost in growth. However, these fresh shoots are doomed to death and also serve numerous pathogens as a gateway.

However, there is a way to encourage roses to maturity through targeted fertilization, making them more resistant to frost and other weather conditions. You can achieve this by fertilizing with patent potassium between the beginning and the middle of August - but never later, because then this strengthening simply remains useless. Incidentally, the potassium-fertilizer has another advantage, namely, it increases the resistance to various pests and diseases of the rose. Do not forget to water the roses vigorously after the potash fertilization, so that the nutrients get quickly to the roots.
Tips
Fertilization with patent kali also makes sense in the spring, as both leaf green and flower colors become stronger - the elements sulfur and magnesium also contained in the potash fertilizer have a positive effect on deciduous and flower colors.
