Frozen yoghurt: preserving yogurt by freezing

Whenever you want to freeze dairy products, always exercise caution as they have a changed consistency after thawing. You can still use thawed yoghurt for cooking or baking - or you can enjoy it frozen as frozen yoghurt.

Freeze yoghurt to preserve it

Before you freeze yoghurt, you should put it in a container suitable for freezing. The hydrous milk product expands upon freezing, so there is a chance that the original yogurt cup will burst. Therefore, you better reach for boxes made of plastic or stainless steel, which can be tightly closed with a lid. Even screw jars are suitable for freezing when you fill them at most two-thirds.
Label the selected container with the date of freezing and the contents. So you do not lose track of the contents of your freezer and prevent throwing away too long stored food. Spoon the yoghurt into it, close the box and place it in the *** freezer. The yoghurt will remain so for up to half a year beyond its stated shelf life.
After thawing, yoghurt, unlike high-fat dairy products, has a crumbly, grainy consistency. This makes it suitable for pure consumption only limited. For cake dough or to stir in sauces, however, it can still be used well.

Making frozen yoghurt

Frozen yoghurt tastes much better. The healthy alternative to ice cream is very much in vogue and can be easily produced at home. If you own an ice cream machine, it is very easy, but you can also prepare frozen yoghurt in the freezer. Low-fat yoghurt is just as well as yoghurt with a higher fat content and fruit yoghurt.

Stir the yogurt smooth and creamy. Refine it to taste with pureed fruit and some icing sugar. Place the yoghurt mixture in a sufficiently large freezer box and place it in the *** freezer compartment. Stir well about every half hour so that it stays creamy and does not freeze to a massive lump. Refine your homemade frozen yogurt before eating with toppings like nuts, fresh fruits or sauces and enjoy it frozen.
