Fertilize larkspur organically - but how?
The Larkspur, also known as Delphinium by gardeners, is a noble and very vigorous plant that has been available for many centuries in German cottage gardens. In order for the beautiful perennial to grow properly and flourish vigorously, it must, however, be sufficiently fertilized with nutrients.
Provide compost twice a year
Basically, Delphinium perennials planted in the garden do not need to be supplied with mineral fertilizer (eg liquid fertilizer), at least if it is a perennial variety and the garden soil contains abundant humus. Perennial Larkspur is instead fed twice a year with organic fertilizer, using mature mixed compost, horn shavings and stone meal (or a mixture of the named components).
Fertilize delphinium properly
The perennial should be mulched with organic fertilizer both in spring and before budding, as well as after autumn pruning. It is important to work well and carefully into the soil without damaging the roots. If needed, another dose may be given after pruning the faded Larkspur in summer to encourage a second flowering. If you are unsure about the amount and composition of fertilizer, have a soil sample.
Fertilize delphinium in the pot
Often, the noble larkspur is cultivated in the pot, in order to protect the plant from the voracious snails - which especially like to have the delicate foliage of the plant to eat. In contrast to larkspur, however, specimens kept in the pot regularly require fertilizer.
Which fertilizer to use for top fritter spur?
In this case, organic fertilizers are not sufficient, but instead take liquid fertilizer for flowering plants. But even a commercial universal fertilizer is completely sufficient. Fertilize between the beginning of March and the beginning / middle of September approximately every 10 to 14 days, by mixing the liquid fertilizer mixed with the irrigation water.
Tips & Tricks
In addition to mature compost and horn shavings larkspur also benefits very well from rotted horse manure, because this provides just the right nutrients in the past composition.
