Raise the lawn - this increases the lawn surface
On the lawn several sinks have emerged, in which the rainwater collects or dams. Terrace or sidewalk were built later and the lawn surface is now a few inches deeper. How can the lawn be raised?
Methods to raise a lawn
Raise a small lawn a few inches
If the distance between the lawn surface and the terrace surface is several centimeters, raise the lawn as follows:
Pierce individual lawn tiles along the edge up to 20 centimeters deep and lay them on the side. Fill the soil with mother earth, gravel or sand-humus mixture so far that the difference is compensated. Level the floor and give it a few days to set.
Then lay the turf plates back on and start gently. If you blast the lawn well now, you should not see anything after only a few days.
Lift large lawns
For very large areas, it is easier to remove the old lawn and apply a correspondingly thick layer of topsoil.
For very sparse lawns, you can also simply cover the turf with soil. Weeds, especially dandelion, greedy, couch grass and field horsetail, should be carefully removed beforehand.
Then sow the lawn again or lay a turf that has already formed a dense turf.
Fill depressions in the lawn
Small depressions in the lawn fill up with topsoil or with humus garden soil. If the layer is only a few centimeters thick, the old grass will eventually penetrate the new layer of earth.
For deeper holes you only have to fill up the hollows completely and sow out new lawn seed. Choose the same seed from the rest of the lawn, so you will not get any unsightly shades.
Tips & Tricks
For very hard soils worth a try, which takes some time, however. Every two months, sprinkle a thin layer of fine sand between the lawn plants. Over time, the lawn lifts and the earth is loosened at the same time.
