The gardener distinguishes two main varieties: the summer pear and the autumn pear. If you would like to start sowing early in the spring, choose seeds for summer leeks so that you can harvest leeks as early as June.
The best place for sowing leeks
The sowing of Sommerporree takes place from January under glass. Autumn leeks sow in the field from July. Preference is given to a humus-rich, loose soil, which should be profound.
Prepare the bed
Leeks need a lot of nutrients. Prepare the bed by deep loosening. Mix plenty of mature compost or manure. Keep the bed weed-free and pour the bed directly before sowing.

The germination time is two to three weeks. From a height of five centimeters, the plants are set lower, so that the desired white stems develop.
To do this, carefully pry the plantlets out with a spade and place them in a planting distance of 15 centimeters from at least five, better still 10 centimeters, deep into the ground. From April on, the leeks that have been brought forward in the greenhouse will be planted outside.
With proper leek care, the first bars are ready for harvest in June. Autumn varieties are harvested from the end of September until the onset of frost.
