Is the philodendron toxic to humans and animals?
Philodendron species rank as opulent leaf ornamental plants at the top of the ranking of popular indoor plants. Toxic to humans
Philodendron are flowed through by a white milk juice. This contains toxic ingredients, such as calcium oxalate or various pungent substances. Even after mere skin contact, severe irritations, rashes and itching can occur. If parts of the leaf, a flower or fruit are consumed, the mucous membranes swell in the mouth and throat. The following are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps.
The tree friend should therefore not be placed within reach of children. During care and cuts, wearing gloves and long-sleeved clothing prevents skin contact. Clippings should be disposed of in the trashcan if there is a risk of animals being able to get to the compost pile in the garden.
Highly toxic to cats, dogs and rodents

For cats, poisoning can be fatal, as the toxins cause irreversible damage to the kidneys. Living together with pets thus excludes the simultaneous cultivation of philodendrons. These include birds that are allowed to fly around in living spaces.
