The whistle is one of the robust climbing plants that require little care and can cope well with heavy frosts. In the field, winter protection is not required. If the plant is maintained in a bucket, the root ball must be protected against frost in winter.

The whistle is absolutely robust. Frost temperatures do not affect the plant. Since the leaves fall off in winter, there is no risk of frost for the above-ground parts anyway.
The roots of the climbing plant, however, should not completely freeze.
Protect the pipe winches in the bucket from frost
In the bucket the whistle is not that hardy. Here the earth freezes much faster than in the field. Container plants must therefore be protected from frost:
Make sure that the bucket with the pipe winch spends the winter in a sheltered location. A corner is ideal, as is a place on the terrace on the wall.
The location must not be too drafty. Make sure that the whistle is protected from strong autumn and winter storms so that the plant does not tip over.
In winter, prevent the pipe from drying out
More than frost, the whistle winds in the winter to create the drought. After prolonged periods of frost or very stormy days, the soil dries out, especially if the soil is not protected by snow. The roots can then no longer draw water and the plant dries up.
For the wintering of the whistle, therefore, regular watering also during the winter months.
It is cast on days when it does not freeze. This applies to all pipe winches, regardless of whether they are planted in the field or pulled in a bucket. Basically, pay attention to a regular water supply.
Tips
The leaves of the whistle drift out in May and remain on the plant until November. They turn yellowish and then fall off. The unbelaubten young shoots have a greenish color, so that the pipe winds do not look as cold as other climbing plants in winter.
