Hibble peppermint outdoors or on the balcony
Basically peppermint is hardy and does not need any special winter protection in a protected location. In very cold locations and keeping in the pot, a light frost protection is recommended.
Previous article Tips for freezing peppermintHibernation in the field
Cut the peppermint all the way down before winter.
Cover the plant with spruce branches or other suitable materials. Branches of coniferous trees are particularly suitable because they drop the needles in the spring and thus leave light to the plant. It then grows faster.
Winterize peppermint on the balcony
In the pot the earth freezes faster. Place the planter in a sheltered corner on a polystyrene plate. Cover the pot with bubble wrap and place some leaves or other insulation over the plant.
Tips & Tricks
You can also overwinter the peppermint in the pot in the house. Place them in a bright, cool place and pour them sparingly.
