Fresh mint tea is delicious and healthy
Peppermint can be processed in many ways
Hardly any herbs are as versatile in the kitchen as peppermint. The green herb is slightly spicy and gives food and drinks a fresh spicy aroma. But you can also use peppermint with oil.
Peppermint can be processed in such a versatile way
For all food and drinks you can use fresh and dried peppermint. Only for decoration and in cocktails you should only use freshly harvested cabbage.
You can also freeze peppermint. It then loses flavor, but in desserts or in lettuce the herbs are still good.
Process peppermint
Peppermint can be used fresh and cooked. When cooking, however, many vitamins are lost.
Pluck the fresh leaves from the stems and add to the food or drink.
Depending on the purpose, rub the dried peppermint off the stalk or pour boiling water over the whole stalk to make tea.
Peppermint tea - the most popular herbal tea
In addition to chamomile peppermint is one of the most commonly used herbal teas. It is therefore worth harvesting and drying a larger supply in the summer before flowering. Then you can also enjoy aromatic peppermint tea in winter. Tea from self-harvested leaves is, in contrast to commercially available teas, unencumbered and healthier.
Make peppermint oil
Peppermint oil is easy to make yourself. Add a handful of stems in virgin olive oil and seal the bottle airtight. Put them in a warm place for about three weeks.
Less is often more
This also applies to peppermint. It often has such a strong aroma that it quickly covers other spices.
Use peppermint sparingly and take fewer leaves until you find the ideal amount.
Even people with stomach problems should be careful when eating peppermint, as the essential oil can cause heartburn and attack the stomach walls.
Tips
You love jelly or jam with some pep? When cooking cherry, apple or raspberry jelly, add a few leaves of fresh peppermint. The sweet spread gets a particularly fresh taste.
