Grow palm trees - is that possible?
For many, palm trees are the symbol of tropical landscapes, with which they combine terms such as: vacation, rest and relaxation. No wonder that the attractive cocksfoot plants are one of the most commonly found ornamental plants in our apartments and for some years now in the garden. It is a lot of fun to use the Mediterranean ambassadors yourself and with a bit of patience, this is quite possible.

Palm trees are very easy to grow by themselves, which you can buy from fruits or buy them yourself. Some species form lateral shoots that you can cut off and put into soil. These sprouts usually develop well and grow quickly to small palm trees.
The sowing of palm seeds
Put the seeds in water for two to three days. This softens the hard shell and facilitates germination.
Since the palm seed usually rises slowly, the seed soil should be germ-free and free from vermin. The following substrates are suitable:
Off in the bag
It has long ceased to be an insider's tip among palm tree fans to sow the seeds, mixed with the substrate, in a plastic bag or a plastic box with a tight-fitting lid.
Mix the seeds with a slightly moistened substrate, place in the container and seal tightly. As a result, the water can not evaporate and the palm seeds have the optimal climate for germination.
Alternatively, you can sow them in a flowerpot and cover them with a plastic bag. Do not forget to ventilate and water here, as there is a different microclimate than in a hermetically sealed vessel.
The correct germ temperature
Depending on the species, this is between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. Some palm tree fans recommend mimicking the natural variations in temperature between day and night as this accelerates the often protracted germination. For example, you can place the culture container on the warm windowsill during the day and in the cool stairwell at night.
Do not get impatient
The germination time is very different. There are species that germinate after one to three months. If this is not the case and there is no mold and no rot, wait and see. Sometimes the exotic plants need up to a year to drive out.
Tips
Are you traveling on holiday to a land where palm trees grow? Then take some palm seeds as a holiday souvenir home with you. Remove the pulp at the resort and sow them at home. There is hardly a better memory of the holiday season.
