With good conditions and proper care, the true olive tree, as the olive is also called, can be quite old for several years. Room or tub olives often lose their leaves, especially in winter. Possible reasons for dropping the leaves

Pay attention to sufficient light
Olives are in principle very easy-care plants that do not resent their owner / keeper so quickly. However, they absolutely need sun - even in winter! Therefore, dark places such as basements are not suitable for the winter and should only be used as a temporary solution for a short time. Better put the pot in a bright but cool place, such as a greenhouse or a stairwell. However, since many olive varieties do not tolerate drafts, you should also provide a draft-free zone. Well protected in a bright corner, your olive should feel well.
Water olives properly
In the homeland of the olive trees, it is quite dry, only in the winter it rains a little more. In addition, just planted olives can form very deep and branched roots, with which they can bring even the smallest amount of moisture from the soil. For this reason, you should not water olives too often, because the root system is very sensitive to too much moisture and then begins to rot. So if your olive sheds its leaves, at best check the substrate and roots for waterlogging or signs of rot. In this case, spill the plant into fresh substrate and carefully remove (!) The rotten roots. Especially in winter, it should be enough to water only once every two weeks. Before every new watering, the earth should have dried.
Tips & Tricks
Olives prefer to spend the winter at temperatures between eight and ten degrees Celsius. For this reason, they often lose their leaves when they have been outside for the summer and are finally brought into the heated living room in the winter. In milder wintry temperatures, you can also leave your olive - well packed and protected from the frost - outside on a sheltered corner (eg on the wall of the house).
