Olive tree tolerates hot, but not freezing temperatures
The olive tree, also known as the "olive tree" in ancient scriptures such as the Bible, has been cultivated in the Mediterranean for several thousand years. For this reason, the plant is perfectly adapted to the prevailing climatic conditions there.
Olives love it warm and sunny
The Mediterranean climate is characterized by long, hot summers and short, mild winters with little frost. In most Mediterranean regions, the sun shines an average of eight to ten hours a day during the summer months, with temperatures between 30 and 40 ° C not uncommon. Even in winter, a sunshine duration of five to six hours daily is not uncommon. Therefore, it is not surprising that olives love it warm and sunny - hot temperatures make them little.
Olives are only partially winterized
While heat is not a problem, olives do not feel comfortable in freezing temperatures. In winter, the rustic plants prefer temperatures between eight and ten degrees Celsius, and for a short time, even slight freezing frosts are tolerated. Deep frosts and long periods of frost, however, do not like olives and should therefore be protected by suitable measures.
Tips & Tricks
If you winterize your olive tree, reduce the watering only slowly. If you start to pour less, the tree will drop its leaves due to lack of water.
