When do mangos have season?
Mangoes are available in principle on the German market throughout the year. But if you take a closer look, you will see that other varieties from different growing regions are always dominating the supply, because harvesting season is not the same everywhere.
Where are mangoes grown?
Originally, the mangoes come from the tropics, in India, they have become virtually the national fruit. The individual regions argue vividly about who has the best mango variety. The fruit in the supermarket you can not see where it comes from. Unfortunately, the mangoes are not always well marked as far as their origin is concerned. Often only asking questions or researching which variety is growing.
India is still one of the mango's largest growing areas, with many mangoes coming from Thailand, the Philippines and Pakistan. Brazil, parts of Africa, Israel, Central America and Australia are important producers of mangoes in addition to Asia, but they are also being cultivated in southern Europe.
If you spend your holidays in Spain, for example on the Costa Brava or in the Canary Islands or on the Portuguese flower island Madeira, you may enjoy fresh mangoes there.Spanish mangoes are also exported, while the mangoes of Madeira are just enough for the Portuguese and their holidaymakers.
