Magnolia is difficult to propagate over cuttings
Many a gardener literally itches in the fingers when a particularly beautiful magnolia stretches him possible cuttings. Unfortunately, the growth of cuttings in magnolia plants is only very rarely possible, instead you should better avoid more promising methods such as lowering or mossing.

Anyone who could propagate a magnolia over cuttings has literally landed a lotto in the lottery, because magnolia scrapers are very difficult to rooted. If you still want to try it, we recommend the following procedure:
Now it has to be patient, because the first roots are formed - if at all - only after a few weeks. However, the probability of success is very low. Incidentally, sometimes magnolia form seeds, but the seed multiplication also succeeds only with much luck.
Magnolia abmoosen or propagate by lowering
The most promising of magnolias is the increase in subsidence or by moss, which is actually only a form of lowering. At the same time you leave the shoot to be rooted on the mother plant at least until the following year, even better until the year after next. Then the young magnolia is strong enough for a breakup. The settlers are best taken after flowering and formation of the leaves when the plant has sufficient strength to put its energy into rooting. Remember to fertilize the mother plant regularly, for example with mature compost or a good rhododendron fertilizer.
Tips & Tricks
In evergreen magnolias, cuttings are not taken in early summer, but in late summer or early autumn, between the end of August and mid-September.
