Seeds are the easiest way to increase the dandelion

Dandelion - increase or slow down multiplication

Many a gardener has driven the dandelion to the brink of despair. He just does not give up and if you intervene too late, you even promote its multiplication. But how can this wild plant multiply and how can one stop the propagation?

Dandelion proliferate over its seeds

The easiest way is to multiply the dandelion by means of its seeds. Seeding the seeds is very easy. That's how it's done:

After the seeds have shown their cotyledons, you should keep the plantlets evenly moist in the next few weeks. About 8 weeks after sowing you can poke the dandelion plants and if necessary plant them out into the open.

An intervention is not absolutely necessary - self-sowing

The effort with the targeted sowing you can also save! If you already have one or more dandelion plants, no special knowledge or measures are necessary - these plants multiply by themselves. Every year a single dandelion plant can produce up to 5,000 seeds (repeated flowering)!

Propagation over the root

Who does not want to multiply the dandelion with the seeds, can also approach the multiplication. All you need is a root or part of it. Dig out a root (Attention: The tap root can grow up to 2 m!). Now cut the root into small pieces that are about 5 cm long.

Then the root pieces are placed about 3 to 5 cm deep in soil. Now it is only necessary to keep the earth moist. Soon, the leaves will sprout from the roots. The planting of the root pieces can be done both controlled in pots and in the bed.

The propagation slow down

You want to stop the propagation of the dandelion at its location? Then you should 'behead' the flowers at flowering time. Use either a lawn mower or a pair of scissors.

Tips

But if only 10% of the seeds of a plant are successfully spread and germinated, you have greatly increased the stock!
