How do you pour the Livistona correctly?
The root ball of Livistona must not dry completely or be kept wet. Pour vigorously during the growth phase. How much water is needed depends on the pot size and the ambient temperature.
When and how is fertilized?
Fertilization is only from spring to summer end. The best is a special palm fertilizer, which is administered every two weeks.
Are you allowed to cut Livistona?
Like all palms Livistona has only one vegetation point. You must not cut them therefore. Only discolored or withered fronds are removed.
When do you have to repot a Livistona?
At the latest when the roots stick out of the pot at the bottom or the top, you have to repot the Livistona. The best time to repot is the early spring.
Shake off the old substrate and place the palm in a larger pot filled with fresh palm soil.
Which diseases and pests can occur?
Pests such as scale insects and thrips occur especially when the humidity is very low. An infestation shows by dying leaves and a meager growth.
When trunk or roots rot, waterlogging is almost always responsible. Never leave water in the coaster. Make sure you have a water-permeable substrate.
How is Livistona really wintered?
Livistona is not hardy and must therefore be wintered frost-free. Move the palm to a place where it is very bright and between 10 and 15 degrees warm.
In winter, Livistona is cast only very sparingly. The fertilizer is completely set during the wintering.
Tips
Livistona needs a very bright location. Place it in the flower window so that it receives enough direct sunlight during the morning or afternoon hours. In contrast to other types of palm trees, it also copes well with low humidity.
