Winterizing irrigation by blowing it out
Underground laid irrigation systems must be emptied before the winter, so that the water therein does not freeze and cause damage. There are different methods for this. Who has not chosen a system with automatic emptying, can remove the residual water by the so-called blowing and blow the pipes dry.
What is the blowout?
When blowing out, use a compressor to push compressed air through the irrigation tubes. This pushes up any residual water in it, thus ensuring that the lines are free and can no longer freeze. By the way, this method is less concerned with the actual pressure than with the amount of air. Therefore, work with the lowest possible pressure, a maximum of 3.5 bar is sufficient. In addition, when installing the irrigation system, do not use only plastic pipes (in which you should prefer the flexible polyethylene pipes to the rigid PVC pipes anyway), but also metal pipes in between. Since the heat generated by the friction of the air large heat, the metal pipes serve the protection of the plastic system.

When blowing out, you should do the following:
Make sure that at least one valve is open! Otherwise the compressor must not be switched on. When done, the compressor is turned off first and then the controller is turned off.

Tips
This technique is not necessary for above-ground irrigation systems. Here you only have to lock the water supply, roll up the garden hoses and keep them away from frost.
