The cherry laurel is one of the most undemanding garden shrubs and requires little attention during the garden year. Regular watering is important for the good growth as the cherry laurel evaporates a lot of liquid over the large leaf area.
Watering is not only required in summer
On dry phases, the laurel cherry reacts with a discoloration of the foliage and leaf shedding. Therefore, it is necessary to water the grove every few days not only during the warm summer months. Additional watering is always necessary when the earth feels dry at the top.
So that the water can penetrate to the deep roots, you should fill up the cherry laurel full. Even on frost-free winter days, you need to water the laurel cherry if necessary, since in the evergreen woodland in sunny or windy weather much moisture is evaporated over the leaves.
Tips & Tricks
The cherry laurel is sensitive to waterlogging. For heavy soils, it is therefore advisable to introduce a drainage layer of gravel into the soil during planting.
