When will chestnuts be harvested?
The harvest time of the different chestnut species and varieties can vary considerably and is also weather dependent, but is always in the fall. Early varieties can be collected as early as September, while late varieties are not ripe until the end of October.
What can I do with my collected chestnuts?
Edible are only chestnuts or chestnuts. Horse Chestnuts are inedible to poisonous. However, these fruits are ideal for decoration and crafts. Extracts from horse chestnut seeds are often used in various herbal medicines. Even as animal feed the horse chestnuts are gladly taken, for example for the wild animal feeding in the winter. Just ask your responsible forester.
