So you prefer nasturtium
Nasturtium is an ideal summer flower for gardeners who have little experience or little time, because it is very easy to care for. It is also good for fresh gardens because it grows very fast.
Since the Nasturtium is not frost hardy, it may only be sown in the field after the Eisheiligen from mid-May. If you would like to be happy about an early flowering, then you prefer your Nasturtium on the windowsill or in the greenhouse.
The advancing in the pot
For putting it in the pot, you will need some clay pots with a diameter of about 6 - 10 cm and normal garden soil. This should be slightly loamy and calcareous if possible and not too nutritious. Maybe you mix some sand under the ground.
Put 2 - 3 seeds into each pot. Cover seeds with some soil, for the nasturtium is a dark germ, and lightly infuse seeds. Always keep the seeds moist for the entire germination period.
This is best done if you stretch a foil over the pot. Alternatively, you can put a mason jar over the seed pot. After about 10 to 20 days, the first seedlings emerge.
Find the right strain
When looking for the right kind of nasturtium you should think first of all of the space available. A creeping variety needs much more space than a compact one. After all, the tendrils of the large nasturtium can be up to 3 feet long.
Another criterion in the selection is the light requirement of the plant. Some varieties are better off with a shady location than others. Last but not least, you still have the choice of flower color. It ranges from traditional yellow-orange and red to white and pink to violet and black.
