Cutting a little basket - why, when and how?
The cutting is an important part of the care of the Kapmargerite, at least if you want to have long pleasure in her and her flowers. But it is not a coercive measure. Read on if you want to know how it works!
Extend the flowering period
In summer, the climax of the Kapkörbchens bloom is reached. The flowers shoot upright. After the first appearance, the withered flowers should be cut away - even before the fruit / seed stems develop. This saves the perennial force.
Next is a rest period for several weeks. Do not be surprised! The second flowering phase begins in late summer or early fall and lasts into October, depending on when the first frost sets in.
Cut back in the fall - prepare for wintering
In autumn, the second pruning takes place. After the flowers have said goodbye to the frost, the Kapmargerite is cut down to 1/3 of its size. Afterwards it can be put in. This cut makes sense, as the plant has to supply less leaves with water and nutrients during the winter in the winter.

As spring approaches, it's time to slowly get used to sunlight again. This evergreen plant has often formed the winter over new shoots and leaves. These should now be cut down by hand. Then follows a brisk new drive.

The freshly flowered flowers can be cut off and placed in a vase. They are well suited for the vase cut. It is best to cut them off in the early morning hours and renew the vase water daily to keep the flowers long.
