Grow camomile yourself

The real chamomile is a widespread and often used - especially in the form of the popular chamomile tea - medicinal herb. In the kitchen, the pretty flowers decorate fresh salads, for example from wild herbs. The unpretentious, one-year-old herb can easily be planted in your own garden or on the balcony so that you can use your own harvest. As medicinal and culinary herbs are relevant only the real chamomile and the Roman chamomile.

Which location prefers chamomile?

The camomile loves the sun, which is why a sunny location is appropriate. If it is bright enough, the plant thrives very well even in partial shade.

Which substrate is optimal for chamomile?

For cultivation, loamy to slightly sandy, if possible only slightly moist soil is best suited. The pH should be between 6.5 and 8 in the slightly acidic to basic range. Black soil is also good.

When will chamomile be sown?

Chamomile can be sown directly in the open air both in autumn and in spring. Chamomile seeded in September winters - provided that it is protected accordingly - without any problems outdoors. Otherwise, the seeds are applied from the beginning of May. Before sowing, the soil should be well loosened and enriched with mature compost.

You can put chamomile on the windowsill from the beginning of March and put it out in May.
