If several cacti thrive in one pot, there will be a lot of crowding over time. So that the plants do not damage each other with their thorns, a separation solves the problem. This sounds easier than it is because sometimes the roots are intertwined. Read here how to successfully share your cacti.

If the affected cacti are in pure mineral cactus soil, the separation should proceed without any problems. It is more difficult if the substrate contains a high proportion of peat. Peat tends to compact and fits tightly around the roots. It is therefore not enough to simply pull the plants apart if the roots are to survive the procedure undamaged. How to do it right:
Are the rhizomes so intertwined that the plants can not be divided by simply pulling them? Then you brew the root ball with soft water until you have a clear view of the mesh. If you divide the cacti now, only a few roots will be damaged, which will grow back quickly with good care.

After this effort, the cacti can regenerate in the warm, shady place for a few days. Only then do you plant the succulents in single pots or a larger, common pot again.
Tips
The pointed thorns of numerous cactus species should be given respect. Although the plants are not poisonous, skin infections can cause serious infections. Therefore, wear thornproof gloves when splitting, cutting or caring for cacti. Even small scribes please disinfect carefully with iodine ointment.
