Like the popular magnolia, the Judas tree (or heart or love tree, as it is sometimes called because of the characteristic shape of its leaves) is one of the flowering shrubs in spring. Just as with the magnolia, the Judas tree is to be cut as little as possible, even if this - in contrast to the magnolia - is actually very well cut compatible.

Judas tree only needs care cut

Since the Judas tree blooms mainly on the at least two-year shoots and branches, a regular pruning is to be educated and nurturing purposes basically not necessary. On the other hand, it looks quite different if you want to raise your Judas tree to a certain growth form, for example as a trellis, as a trunk, shrub or even bonsai. In this case you can cut back the plant by up to a third and bring it into the desired shape. Except for a few varieties Judas trees are pretty cut compatible.

Slightly trim the hanging Judas tree

In contrast to other Judas trees, a hanging Judas tree (eg the variety "Lavender Twist") should not be cut as far as possible or only for nurturing purposes, otherwise the growth may suffer.
