Sow flax only on areas where no other linseed has been grown for at least four years. At a shorter time interval, fungi form in the soil, causing the young plants to rot.
Lein is sown at the end of March, beginning of April. But there must be no strong frost to be expected. Flax is a long-day plant, so it needs a lot of light. Lein grows fast in May and June.
Flax hardly needs care
Fertilize only flax varieties that you grow for fiber production. A fertilizer based on phosphorus and potassium ensures particularly firm, long fibers. Oil is not fertilized.
Pour sparingly. Flax for fibers needs more moisture than flax for oil production.
When can flax or linseed be harvested?
Flax is ready for harvest 110 to 120 days after sowing. He is then pulled by hand, along with roots. It is ideal if the plants are harvested one week before maturity.
