The Judas tree (Cercis), also known as the heart tree or love tree, develops abundant flower clusters not only on the young shoots and twigs, but also on perennial wood and even directly on the trunk. This botanical peculiarity as well as the immense, pink or white flowers make the Judas tree an exotic eye-catcher both in the garden and in the tub. However, the butterfly-like flowers are not only beautiful to look at, but even edible.

The beautifully shaped and colorful flowers decorate in raw form both salads and desserts and conjure up a beautiful contrast. Their taste is mildly sour and sweet. Many a gardener also consumes the legumes ripening between August and September, although their idiosyncratic flavor is not necessarily for everyone. In addition, the fruits and seeds, but also the leaves - in contrast to the flowers - in sensitive people to slight poisoning and therefore should be avoided, especially by children and pets.
