The extraordinary flower of the Judas tree
Originally the Judas tree - known to many gardeners because of the characteristic shape of its foliage also known as the heart tree or love tree - is native to the warm and sunny climes along the Mediterranean Sea and in Asia Minor. The mostly pink, but also white flowers appear in early spring before the foliage, the Judas tree has an interesting feature.

Most European flowering plants bloom only on the young shoots, in contrast to the Judas tree: this also develops its flowers on perennial branches and twigs and even directly on the trunk. This strain - botanically referred to as cauliflorium - is usually only observed on tropical woody plants, which is why the Judas tree is a true rarity in this point. The flowers appear on short bunches and are similar to butterfly blossoms. In addition to the flowers in spring, the Judas tree also inspires with a magnificent autumnal play of colors, because its leaves turn very intense.

The Judas tree is one of the legumes and developed after flowering about six centimeters long pods, which often hang into the spring and can be used for propagation.
