Snowball hydrangea "Annabelle" also blooms in the shade
The snowball hydrangea "Annabelle" is a vigorous and rich flowering shrub that can grow up to two meters high and as wide. "Annabelle" prefers a half shady location, but also feels well in the sun and even in the shade.
Shadows is ideal for "Annabelle"
In a sheltered place under higher trees, which provide a light shade without midday sun, with humus and fresh soil, the snowball hydrangea "Annabelle" can develop into a magnificent flowering shrub with numerous large umbels. But even in more extreme locations, be they full sun or deep shade, you can cultivate "Annabelle" successfully. Much more important than the lighting conditions is the soil, which should be loose and well drained, humic, nutritious and slightly acidic to neutral.
Tips & Tricks
If the soil is very alkaline (ie pH above 7), your snowball hydrangea "Annabelle" will fade, its foliage will gradually turn pale yellow. This typical symptom is called chlorosis. Higher pH values are tolerated if enough nutrients - especially iron - are available.
