Hops is a native plant that copes well with minus temperatures. It retreats in the fall and leaves only withered hops. A hibernation in the field is not necessary. Grow the hops in the tub, but you should provide some winter protection.

Since hops are completely hardy, the plant needs no winter protection. If possible, leave the perennial alone until next spring and cut it down in February.
Pull hops in the bucket, a light winter protection is advisable. In the pot, the earth freezes much faster. Place the bucket on a Styrofoam plate and wrap it in some bubble wrap.
Tips
If you disturb the withered hop remains in winter, cut them down in the fall. It is better, however, to leave a rest. Then the remaining nutrients can migrate into the roots.
